A lovely little nugget from Dave McClure, giving a talk on pitching and of course metrics for pirates at Seedcamp Week ’11:
“Pitch your problem, not your solution”
If you want to engage your listener, start by talking about the problem you are solving. This is a much more powerful, and emotional, hook. People love problem solving, if you can outline a problem which the opposite party can empathise with, and then guide them to the solution then you are appealing at a much more fundamental level then by starting with the solution and then detailing the problem.
